It’s the annual parent-teacher conference. No parents, meaning the kids are unsupervised. Not like this is a surprise, but this occasion calls for some interesting drama. Keep reading to find out more about what happens in episode two of the Gossip Girl reboot.
Here is all that goes down during the parent-teacher conference.
Not your typical punch and cookies in the banquet hall or babysitter overseeing the kids type of night.
Where’s Obie?
The last time we checked, Obie was with Zoya… Taking a “break” with Julien… At least from Julien’s understanding. But, it’s been a few days, and where is Obie? He’s killing Julien’s social image. He hasn’t been featured in one of her latest Instagram posts, and now her fans are wondering.
The minions have a plan of course. A few days, a few hashtags to distract, “#GirlsNightOut,” surely no one will notice. But, Julien has. And so has Obie, and so has half-sister, Zoya, who after last week's incidents is grounded and “keeping a low-profile.”
Zoya who is unable to resist or escape the chase of Obie ends up on an unexpected date with him. Obie buys her and her father a ticket to the school's gala - where typically only the rich elite can attend, buy tickets and “afford” to contribute to the designated charity.
A flattered Zoya and her father, coming from the lesser end of the spectrum, unknowingly attend the event. This is where drama stirs.
The Gala.
At this point, it’s the popular clique versus Zoya, but a conflicted Julien still doesn’t want to believe that her half-sister is an adversary to her and her status. The forces of nature seem to oppose this fantasy. Obie cannot stay away and neither can the limelight of Gossip Girl.
Suddenly, the event which the two half-sisters dreaded - their fathers spot each other. The two are then forced to face the truth. Julien must confess to her enraged father that she helped Zoya get in, and Zoya must reveal that she has been breaking grounding privileges as well as communicating with Julien.
The two furious fathers are put against each other, yet facing their differences in order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their daughters at the elite Constance Billard school.
Not showing up.
Clique member Audrey heads the episode reciting an email from Constance Billard: “Dear Katherin, we’re sorry you were unable to attend tonight’s parent-teacher meetings. If you would like to speak to faculty in regards to Audrey’s progress, please do not hesitate to…” - “never respond to this, or show up to anything related to your daughter’s life,” Audrey finishes the e-mail in her own words.
From there, we are taken into a world that has since been unknown - Audrey’s life, her trauma, and her emotions. An absent mother, with a father who cheated with the family assistant.
Audrey’s mom copes with excessive sleeping, medication and of course alcohol, often missing important events in her daughter’s life. Audrey carries the burden in a fashion leading her to poor impulsive decisions yet still trying to salvage her mom’s life and reputation.
Desperate attempts, such as forcing her mom to attend the school profit share, cause Audrey to give up on her mother who attends yet gets belligerently drunk in the process. A disappointed yet outraged Audrey turns to intimacy… Obviously, with a partner that isn’t her own, yet still a part of her circle - Max.
Gossip Girl Account gets blocked.
After a picture of Obie and Zoya together is snapped, Julien and her minions decide to take action to clear the rumors. Julien posts an old picture of her and Obie together in a desperate attempt to convince her followers that they are still together. It works, and the trolls spam the Gossip Girl with hate and blocks, forcing the account to get suspended.
However, Julien then realizes that the only way to separate Obie from Zoya is to turn Obie away from Zoya. She sparks a deal with GG - get the juiciest gossip on Zoya and send it to Julien to show Obie.
A hesitant Ms. Kellar does what she is told in order to uphold the status and power GG gives.
Julien, who later seems to come to her senses after seeing the connection between Zoya and Obie, shoots down the plan and never goes through with it… So now we are left with this unknown, “juicy” information on Zoya.
By the end of the episode, we are still unaware of this gossip, and as for Gossip Girl, that’s a secret she’ll never tell…
You know you love her, XOXO - till the next episode.
Oh, and by the way, Julien and Obie break up. Zoya and Obie share a kiss. The two fathers are enraged by the actions of their daughter. GG (AKA Ms. Kellar) is conflicted between morals and gossip.
The end.
Max.
One last thing. Brief, but particularly important for later drama. Max is trying to hook up with his teacher. Aki and Max share an intimate moment in order to make the teacher jealous, but the teacher remains stone-cold, avoiding Max’s attempt.
But will this last? Or will Max’s charming and irresistible nature eventually work in his favor?
Stay tuned. And check out our review of episode 1.
