Transformers One (2024) - Trailer Review

A new trailer for "Transformers One", the first full-length animated feature in the iconic "Transformers" franchise in 38 years, was unveiled by stars Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Keegan-Michael Key, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and director Josh Cooley. Accompanying the trailer, three extended clips were also shown, providing fans a detailed glimpse into the film.

The movie focuses on the beginning of the story, tracing the journey of Orion Pax, a.k.a. Optimus Prime (Chris Hemsworth) and D-16, a.k.a. Megatron (Brian Tyree Henry) from being best friends to bitter enemies on their home planet, Cybertron. The character B-127, a precursor to Bumblebee, is voiced by Key, while Scarlett Johansson, unable to attend the event due to filming commitments for the next "Jurassic" movie, lends her voice to another Transformer, Elita.

Other esteemed members of the voice cast, absent from the event but notable in the film, are Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion, Jon Hamm as Steninel Prime, and Steve Buscemi as Starscream.

Highlights from the presentation included a montage showcasing the historic rivalry between Optimus Prime and Megatron across various "Transformers" media and an advanced view of the pre-rivalry friendship portrayed in "Transformers One".

Amid the riveting sequences and action, the film introduces some new lore to the franchise. These include the transformation cogs that Orion and D-16, among others are devoid of. In an exciting clip, these cogs are gifted to them from other fallen Primes by Alpha Trion, leading to a struggle to transform for the first time.

In the last clip screened, it was revealed that the Deceptions were preceded by the High Guard, under the leadership of Starscream. D-16 is seen successfully fighting Starscream and taking over leadership of the High Guard.

Along with the cast, who shared their childhood memories related to Transformers, producer di Bonaventura highlighted the uniqueness of the film in terms of its no-human character format and its setting billions of years prior to the main story events. This animated venture is set to offer fans a fresh take on the beloved narrative and characters of "Transformers".
