Netflix has just dropped the exciting trailer for "Unfrosted", the Pop-Tart origin story, directed by Jerry Seinfeld, slated for release on May 3. Here’s a little peek into the storyline, courtesy of Netflix's Tudum, "Unfrosted captures Michigan in 1963, where we see Kellogg’s and Post, two cereal industry giants, vying to create the ultimate pastry that will transform mornings forever. A narrative of aspiration, deception, sweet allure, and ominous milk carriers."
It's hardly a secret that Seinfeld has been pondering over the Pop-Tart ascent for quite some time. He made his artistic aspirations apparent in a 2018 tweet, imagining the buzz around the sugar-fueled Kellogg's cereal culture of the mid-60s in Battle Creek, MI, and how he could translate it into a movie. He also mentioned this idea during his appearance on "The Late Show" in 2010.
The star-studded cast features recognized faces of humor, including Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, Hugh Grant, Max Greenfield, Christian Slater, Bill Burr, Daniel Levy, James Marsden, Jack McBrayer, Thomas Lennon, Bobby Moynihan, Adrian Martinez, Sarah Cooper, and Fred Armisen.
The screenplay, penned by Seinfeld, along with Spike Feresten, Barry Marder, and Andy Robin, will mark his debut as a film director. Before this, Seinfeld featured in a Netflix stand-up comedy special in 2020, titled "23 Hours to Kill". The production of "Unfrosted" is under the Columbia 81 Productions banner, with Seinfeld, Feresten, and Beau Beauman as the core producers.
