After the underwhelming theatrical debut of 'Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1', Kevin Costner’s Territory Pictures, in partnership with New Line Cinema, decided to delay the release of its sequel - 'Horizon: Chapter 2' - originally slated for August 16. Instead, the companies aim to garner a larger audience for the first film via premium video on demand (PVOD) starting July 16, while it remains showing in theaters. Advance tickets sold for Chapter 2 are to be refunded.
Territory Pictures & New Line Cinema thank audiences for their support and welcome the opportunity for an expanded viewing window for the first Horizon film.
Despite a disappointing $11 million opening weekend, Costner stands by the four-part series. He invested $38 million in producing the first film, with the remaining funded by two undisclosed investors and international rights sales. Costner also financed the film’s marketing, distributed and marketed by New Line and its parent company Warner Bros.
The future release schedule for the remainder of the 'Horizon: An American Saga' film series, along with distribution rights for the third and fourth movies, remains uncertain.
