Brothers (2024) - Movie Review

In the film "Brothers," stars Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage portray twin brothers who turned to a life of crime after being abandoned by their mother. The director, Max Barbakow, subverts expectations by exploring not just their physical differences, but their contrasting temperaments and life objectives, keeping them at odds well into their fifties.

Brolin’s character, Moke, makes an attempt to put his criminal past behind him and settle into a mundane job. He is also preparing to start a family with his wife Abby, played by Taylour Paige. Conversely, the moment Dinklage's character, Jady, is released from prison, he devises a plan to pull Moke back into their old criminal ways.

Jady's freedom is based on an ill-conceived agreement with a corrupt prison guard, played by Brendan Fraser, who's counting on Jady to retrieve a stash of priceless emeralds his mother stole years ago. This unorthodox family dynamic gets even more complicated when their mother, played by Glenn Close, reappears.

Brothers (2024) - Movie Review

"Brothers" is reminiscent of many rural crime comedies, but lacks a unique twist to separate it from the pack. Despite this, it delivers thanks to the performances of its talented cast. However, the film does not fully utilize its premise of the main characters being twins, doing nothing particularly innovative with it.

Set for limited release on October 10, "Brothers" then becomes available globally on Prime Video from October 17 onwards.
