Netflix’s acclaimed adaptation of Julia Quinn’s “Bridgerton” book series is back for its second season. This time around, the eldest son and man of the house Viscount Anthony Bridgerton must find his own wife and true love. But will he find both qualities in the same woman?
What happens?
Episode 1, “Capital R Rake” welcomes us back into the world of Regency-era England. The wealthy families are once again preparing for the “season” with the society debut of their eligible daughters in the hopes of striking a marriage match.
Lady Whilstledown’s gossip column is of course the talk of the town, and we learn that the Queen is more resolved than ever to find out her identity.
New characters Lady Mary and her two daughters Kate and Edwina traveled from India in the hopes that Edwina may find a match. Lady Danbury has kindly offered to sponsor them, though there is a clear conflict as she butts heads with Kate over how best to handle their introductions and potential suitors.
Worth the watch?
This episode serves as an excellent season pilot, raising the stakes for each of our characters’ personal journeys (notably, Anthony’s search for a wife and Eloise’s disdain for her own society debut), and introducing us to new characters.
The first ball of the season welcomes back the classical renditions of pop songs (see if you can catch which ones!) gorgeous gowns, and of course, drama. An overheard conversation in the gardens The cinematography is stunning and truly transports you inside their world.
Overall, the show is the perfect contrast between love and family, and duty and honor. And this episode reminds you just how loveable (and hateable) our main characters are.
Is the Viscount truly ready to find a wife? Or does he seek one only to fulfill his role?
Stay tuned for Episode 2!
