Blitz (2024) - Movie Review

The historical drama "Blitz," directed by Steve McQueen and headlining Saorise Ronan, has been chosen as the closing film for the New York Film Festival's 62nd edition. The North American premiere of "Blitz" will happen at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, on October 10. "Blitz" is being supported by Apple Original Films and is set to be released in theatres on November 1 before its worldwide premiere on Apple TV+ on November 22.

"Blitz", both written and directed by McQueen, the Academy Award-winning director of "12 Years a Slave," is set during World War II. It chronicles the experiences of a group of London residents amid the gruesome events of the Blitz. The narrative unfolds from Ronan's character Rita, a working-class single mother, and her 9-year-old son, George as they get separated in the conflict-ridden city. The character of George is played by Elliott Heffernan, a newcomer.

McQueen expressed immense pride, gratitude, and fondness for being able to showcase "Blitz" at the New York Film Festival again. His previous works like "12 Years a Slave," "Hunger," "Lovers Rock," and "Occupied City" have also been screened at the festival.
