King is one of the pioneers of contemporary horror writing, but over the years, he has dabbled in other genres. It's hardly surprising that there are adaptations of his novels because he is one of the most important American writers of all time.
The following is a list of his books turned to movies:
Misery (pictured)
Even though Misery doesn't have the typical horror elements in Stephen King's works, it is still an immensely gripping thriller. The story follows novelist Paul Sheldon. Sheldon gets into a dangerous vehicle accident and is treated by a former nurse, Annie Wilkes. She identifies herself as his biggest admirer. When she takes him to her remote cabin for recovery, her admiration turns controlling, overly obsessive, and even violent.
The Green Mile
Tom Hanks, David Morse, and Michael Clarke Duncan provide some of their best performances ever in Frank Darabont's film The Green Mile. The main character of the novel is a prison guard who meets an African American prisoner who is on charges with killing two young girls. But, has supernatural abilities that defy explanation.
King's artistic horror cliches expertly merge with his profound grasp of mankind in both the book and the movie. It creates a gripping narrative that is both character-driven and packed with surprises.
The Shawshank Redemption
There is a solid reason why The Shawshank Redemption is one of the best movies of all time. Along with some all-time great performances, it consists of philosophical concepts and perceptive commentary that stand up remarkably well today. It is about Andy Dufrense (Tim Robbins) who is sentenced to two consecutive life terms for murders. Andy knows he did not commit the crime and the movie follows his prison experience and the brutality within.
The movie is an excellent representation of everything fantastic about Stephen King's works, including their intriguing plots, morals, compelling narratives, fascinating characters, and gratifying resolutions. It is one of the best for a reason, and it always will be.
