Andrew Garfield's Possible Return as Spider-Man Hinges on 'Offbeat' Story
- Apr 21, 2025
Andrew Garfield has expressed his openness to reprise his role as Spider-Man in a potential fourth movie. Despite the massive global success of "Spider-Man: No Way Home," which earned over $1.9 billion, Garfield clarified during the Middle East Film & Comic Con that he would only return if the script took a different, unique approach.
The actor expressed his interest in exploring a distinctively unusual storyline. He appreciated the creative liberty enjoyed by the animated 'Spider-Verse' movies and showed interest in a similar vein for the Spider-Man character. In an earlier interview with Esquire magazine, Garfield discussed his abrupt exit from the franchise after the box office disappointment of "Amazing Spider-Man 2." The role was then shared between Sony and Disney, allowing for Tom Holland to step in with 2017's "Spider-Man: Homecoming."
However, the global admiration for "No Way Home" signaled a still prevalent appreciation for Garfield's rendition of the iconic superhero. He told Esquire he would be interested in returning to the role for a project that introduces something new and exciting to the cultural narrative.

Despite speculation about Garfield's involvement in "Spider-Man 4," the actor denied rumors of signing onto the project. Although he understands fans may distrust his denial due to the secretive nature of such franchises. He explained his decision to partake in such major Hollywood projects would depend on whether it aligns with his personal beliefs and provides an enjoyable experience.
The next Spider-Man project, titled "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," starring Tom Holland, is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026.
