A Star Wars Fan Primer for the Obi-Wan Kenobi Series

Alright, Star Wars fans, you may have had mixed feelings about the most recent films in a galaxy far, far away, but you’ve probably been loving The Madalorian on Disney Plus and that means you have a lot to be excited about.

With the success of The Madalorian, Disney Plus is doubling, tripling, quadrupling (you get the idea) down on more shows set in the Star Wars universe. The list of upcoming series includes:

  • Ahsoka - with the character from The Madalorian getting her own series.
  • The Book of Boba Fett - we don’t know much about the plot, but we can assume the titular bounty hunter will play a prominent role in the series.
  • Rangers of the New Republic - this series will coincide with The Mandalorian and Ahsoka from a timeline perspective, but not much else is known about it yet.
  • Andor - a prequel to Rogue One that is set to come out in 2022.
  • The Bad Batch - focusing on a team of rogue Clone Troopers from The Clone Wars series.
  • Star Wars: Visions - a collection of short animated features based in the Star Wars universe, coming out in 2021.
  • Lando - all we really know is it will focus on fan-favorite character Lando Calrissian.
  • The Acolyte - taking place hundreds of years before the Phantom Menace, it will delve into a previously unexplored time in the Star Wars timeline.
  • A Droid Story - an animated series about R2-D2 and C-3PO.
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi - focusing on another seminal character from the Star Wars universe.

An Obi-Wan Kenobi Viewing Primer

When can we expect to watch it?

Filming is expected to start in March 2021, so the likely release date will be late 2021 or early 2022.

Who is in it?

A Star Wars Fan Primer for the Obi-Wan Kenobi Series

We welcome back two familiar faces from Star Wars Episodes 2 and 3 in Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan and Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader.

When is the story set?

The series is set to take place 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith (Episode III) and 9 years before A New Hope (Episode IV).

Where will it take place?

We can expect much or all of the action to take place on Tattoine, where a young Luke Skywalker is being raised by his aunt and uncle, with Obi-Wan keeping his distance but also watching to make sure Luke stays safe.

What happens?

We don’t know for sure, but we think we might see Obi-Wan learn the secrets of becoming a Force Ghost, which will come in handy for him in the future. Let’s assume we’ll see some fun characters we know would be on Tatooine like Jabba the Hutt and of course we’ll get to see a younger version of Luke Skywalker.
