4 Big Questions about Marvel’s Phase 4

What’s coming in Phase 4 of the MCU?

Marvel

We’re actually 2 feature films (Black Widow and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) movies and 4 Disney Plus series (WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and What If…?) into the newest phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe storyline – phase 4. That’s quite a bit of content in a lot of ways, but it hasn’t exactly given us a complete picture of what is still to come from the rest of this phase which include 10 more movies through at least 2023, 8 more new Disney Plus shows, along with second seasons for some of the existing ones.  So, we’re just scratching the surface of what phase 4 will bring us.  So, what are some of the big questions fans have about phase 4 at this point?

WandaVision

Will Fan Favorite Characters Continue?

We know a bit about this one since key characters like Dr. Strange, Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Falcon/Captain America, Winter Soldier, and Loki have already shown up in phase 4 content. We also know that Thor, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man, Wasp, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, War Machine, and the Guardians of the Galaxy all have movies or Disney Plus shows on the schedule.

That said, I think we can assume that some of our beloved characters may say their farewells during Phase 4. We know there will be a new wielder of Thor’s hammer  (Jane Foster), effectively becoming The God of Thunder in Thor: Love and Thunder. So, could Chris Hemsworth be playing the role for the last time? We also know this next film will be the final one for the Guardians of the Galaxy.  Black Widow received her official farewell, by finally getting to lead her own movie earlier this year. Who else will take a bow and exit stage left during phase 4?

Shang-Chi

What New Characters will be Introduced?

We’ve already been given an amazing intro to Shang-Chi and his new corner of the MCU, and Monica Rambeau gained her superpowers in WandaVision. We also met US Agent and Yelena as new possible heroes/possible villains. On the horizon, we’ll get to see Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, a new Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), Moon Knight, and IronHeart in upcoming Disney Plus shows. The films will get fans extremely excited as they reboot The Fantastic Four and Blade to officially join the MCU. Of course, we’ll meet the entire crew of the Eternals very soon, when that film comes out,

We also know that at some point, mutants should make their way into the MCU, if they haven’t already. So, will we get a new Wolverine or Cyclops? Technically, if Deadpool is going to be in the MCU, then we might already have those characters.

What is the Main Storyline?

So, we may have some ideas about who we will see in phase 4, but what about the main storyline that brings all these wildly different characters together? Our first guess is the Multiverse. It seems kind of convenient, but at this point, it has made an appearance in WandaVision, Loki, and What If…? And we know it will play a key role in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home film, along with the next Dr. Strange movie. So, perhaps the events at the end of Loki, where the multiverse was blown open when Sylvi killed He Who Remains, who we also know to be Kang The Conquerer.

Who is the Ultimate Villain?

Based on what we know so far, how about Kang the Conquerer?  He has some legitimate chops as a complicated villain with incredible power and he spans the Multiverse.  At the same time, he isn’t all that super-powered compared to Thanos. So, maybe he’s just going to be a major antagonist, but not the ultimate bad guy. Who else might play into the Multiverse storyline? Some supremely powerful celestial? We know we’ll see them in The Eternals. What about going all-in on a character like Galactus who we could meet in The Fantastic Four?

Basically, we have no idea, and chances are, none of these ideas will be right.  We may just have to wait a few years to find out,
