2022 is shaping up to be a serious year for movie releases. We’ll caveat, by saying that all these dates (simply listed by the month they are currently scheduled to be released) are subject to change based on whatever 2022 might throw our way. But, check out this list of potential blockbusters (and a few with a bit less blockbuster potential)!
January
The 355 - Jessica Chastain leads a cast of international spies on a high-stakes mission. Starring 2 Academy Award winners and two other international stars. This one was originally scheduled for release in January 2021, so it’s been long-awaited.
Deep Water - Ana de Armas (No Time to Die) teams up with Ben Affleck in this steamy drama, based on the Patricia Highsmith novel.
Morbius - There’s a new vampire in town and his name is Morbius. Played by Jared Leto, this appears to be in the same universe as Venom… and maybe Spider-Man?
February
Uncharted - Tom Holland ditches the Spider-Man suit and instead takes on the role of Nathan Drake, adventurer in this video game adaption.
March
The Batman - Are you ready for Robert Pattinson as the next Batman? We’re told to take the various Batman movies as somewhat unrelated, so each series/actor is something of a standalone within the larger DC universe.
May
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - This one should follow up on events from both Disney Plus series, WandaVision, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, as the world’s most powerful sorcerer faces some multi-universal challenges.
Bob’s Burgers: The Movie - Did you know there was a movie version of Bob’s Burgers on the horizon? No? Join the club.
Top Gun: Maverick - This one has been delayed since June 2020, so it’s about time we finally get to see Tom Cruise reinvent the iconic character of Navy pilot Maverick for a new generation.
John Wick: Chapter 4 - People should probably stop asking is he’s back. He is definitely back and not to be messed with. On the heels of The Matrix 4, we’re getting another iconic Keannu Reeves character (he has more than a few) back for more action.
June
Jurassic World: Dominion - The original crew of Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, and Laura Dern return alongside newer cast members, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard to bring the series full circle.
Lightyear - Did you ever wonder where Buzz Lightyear came from or what his origin story was, before Toy Story? Well, you’re about to find out.
July
Thor: Love and Thunder - Oh yeah! We get the team behind the outstanding Thor: Ragnarok back for another take on the god of thunder. This time, the cast also includes Natalie Portman (who should take up the hammer as the new Thor), Christian Bale, and at least several members of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Secrets of Dumbledore - With Mads Mikkelson taking over for Johnny Depp as villain Gellert Grindelwald, joining the cast of Jude Law (Dumbledore), Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander) and the gang, in the third installment of this Harry Potter prequel series.
September
Mission Impossible 7 - Tom Cruise is back for at least one more impossible mission.
November
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - We’re still very uncertain what this will be about, other than we’re told they are not recasting or passing on the mantle of Black Panther to a new character.
December
Avatar 2 - It didn’t take as long as Top Gun to make a sequel, but fans have still be waiting for a long time for the follow-up to the blockbuster Avatar.
