1899 — Season 1, Episode 2 Recap

The second episode of 1899 opens with Larsen having a terrifying vision. He turns to face his family’s home and finds it completely burn down, with his wife and three daughters still inside.

Larsen stops the men in the engine room who are debating if this child is indeed a werewolf by asking one of them, Olek, about the coal. He is curious about their wealth, but it must remain a secret from the rest of the group. He is still hearing the strange German singing and is finding it difficult to remain composed.

The mystery child is awake inside, and he silently gives Maura the black pyramid. At the same time, Krester, the Third Class character from the previous chapter who requested Maura’s assistance, is discovered by Angel as she prowls the area. After giving the tobacco box back, he quickly leaves. Kove questions Krester and reminds him that he promised her something.
Larsen makes the audacious choice to turn the ship around and tow the Prometheus back to their starting point.

The passengers are furious and oppose this lunacy, saying they don’t want to participate. “I’ve made up my mind.” The captain speaks clearly before departing. Even Maura opposes this notion—that is until she sees the company’s message and the odd letter it has delivered regarding Eyk’s family. He’s more certain than ever that everything is related.

The third-class traveler is found dead as the show comes to an end. However, as Larsen turns to look, we zoom out to see all the passengers on monitors, appearing to be under someone’s watchful eye.
