Exercise Your Brain with Fun Games

Our brains store information such as important dates, day-to-day checklists, passwords, and more. Did you know this is actually a muscle memory? Like any other muscle, it's important to maintain it by exercising our brain.

Whether you are working on a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle or New York Times crossword, puzzling is an interactive and relaxing activity. Below are a few fun games that help challenge your memory.

Wordle

Recently, this game has taken the internet by storm. Young and old people alike are obsessed with this word-guessing game that takes on many of the the attributes of Scrabble. Developer Josh Wardle created this web-based word game where players have six attempts to guess a 5-letter word.

With each guess feedback is given - a green tile indicates a correct letter, yellow means it is in the answer but in the wrong position, and gray indicates it is not in the answer at all.

Each day, there is a new word and the word is the same for all players. Send your friends challenge requests to compete for the word Whoever guesses in the least amount of tries, is clearly the “Wordle Champ” proving themselves to be a competitor.

The game has become a viral phenomenon. If someone sends you a text with green and yellow squares, don’t be alarmed - it is just their Wordle score of the day!

Fishbowl

Exercise Your Brain with Fun Games

Similar to charades, Fishbowl is a great and interactive group game. Whether you are hanging out with friends or at a holiday gathering, this game will incite a lot of laughs and movement.

Each player writes the following things on a piece of paper: a person, a movie title, and a thing (typically an object). The group is broken up into teams, and each team member will have a chance to go up, get their word, and present it to their team until they guess the answer. You can get as many words and guesses until the timer runs out.

Each round is different. In the first round, players can use an unlimited amount of words (excluding words on the card) to help their team guess the word, in the second, players can only use one word, and on the last, players must act out their word.

Skribbl.io

This fun game can be played from your computer and with friends or family all over the world. The free multiplayer drawing game is similar to Pictionary. Once players join they are all on their own team.

The person chosen for each round is at random. That player will receive a few different options of things to draw and whichever player guesses the fastest receives the most points. The player will have to draw their object and guessers can type their guesses in the chat function.

The only hint the game gives is the number of letters in the word and a rhyming word.

This simple and fun game can be played if you are trying to kill some time on your computer at work or hosting an interactive party through Zoom or other conference streaming platforms.

Amidst all of these games are classics such as word searches, crossword puzzles, trivia (I like to watch old jeopardy episodes to test myself), and more. Exercising the brain is important so even if it is just for a 30-minutes day, you are doing your brain and memory a favor!
