If you’re a kid, chances are the best part of Halloween is the load of free candy your parents normally wouldn’t let you have at once if it was any other time of the year. If you’re an adult, chances are the best part of Halloween is stealing some of that free candy your kids get. Either way, candy seems to be the winning factor.
I like to break candy-lovers up into two different types of categories: fruit-flavored and chocolate-flavored. The fruit-flavored candy-lovers are known to favor gummy bears, gummy worms, Starbursts, Swedish Fish, Skittles, Jolly Ranchers, Sour Patch Kids, etc. The chocolate-flavored candy-lovers are known to favor Snickers, Twix, Reese’s, Kit Kats, M&M’s, or just plain chocolate.
Below is a list of the top 5 candy options to eat at Halloween, based on nothing other than personal preference from taste buds!
5. Sour Patch Kids Watermelon
Sour Patch Kids Watermelon is the only fruit-flavored, gummy candy to make this list, so congratulations to them! Unlike gummy bears, Sour Patch Kids have a sour sugar coating which gives them the perfect tanginess to each bite. I have to say that I do quite enjoy regular Sour Patch Kids. It’s the same taste with a variety of flavors including lemon, orange, blue raspberry, and cherry. But having every bite in your handful being all watermelon is awesome. On a scale of 1 to 10 in terms of not being able to stop eating these, these rank at about a 7.
4. Peanut M&M’s
Now we’re in the good stuff. Chocolate candy is where it’s at. Peanut M&M’s are one of the original varieties aside from just regular M&M’s. However, what regular M&M’s lack that little bit of extra pizzazz. This is where the whole peanuts come in. Now, it’s not necessarily a peanut butter flavor--which would change the entire ranking. Just whole peanuts for a more traditional flavor.
3. Snickers
Now we’re getting up there in terms of all-time favorite candy that you can almost find being given out at any house. Snickers consist of a bottom layer of nougat, topped with caramel and peanuts and then covered in chocolate. Normally, most people wouldn’t list nougat at the top of their candy list. But there’s something pretty generically pleasing about these things combined that make one of the best candy bars out there. And remember, if you’re hungry? Eat a Snickers.
2. Almond Joy
Most people would probably disagree with me on this one but with coconut being one of my all-time flavors for, well, anything, it puts Almond Joys really high up on my list. Sweetened, condensed shredded coconut on the inside with a single whole almond, and coated in chocolate. If you love coconut, chances you are probably love Almond Joys. If you hate coconut, well you’ll probably hate this too.
1. Twix
And here we are at the number one on the list. It doesn’t matter if you’re left Twix or right Twix, Twix is Twix and it’s good. It combines arguably three of the best dessert components together: cookie biscuit, caramel, and chocolate. With Twix you get a lovely snap from the biscuit, gooey caramel that strings when you pull it apart, and of course, chocolate. Twix is a classic and you can’t go wrong.
