Recipes You Might Have Missed If You're Not On TikTok

Maybe you live under a rock, or maybe you’re just not a Generation Z-er spending their days incessantly scrolling through their feeds. Either way, that is okay! You should still be able to enjoy all the hot trends on the App - including TikTok recipes!

Here are some food trends you can try out in the kitchen and maybe even surprise your other non-Gen Z friends with these new TikTok recipes!

  1. Pesto eggs: You know about green eggs (and ham), but do you know about pesto eggs? This summer 2021, users of TikTok have seen a fun new way to spice up their eggs on their feed. Here is the recipe:
  • Add a generous amount of pesto sauce (can be store bought or homemade) to a non-stick skillet. Spread it around with olive oil and let it heat up.
  • Break your desired amount of eggs in the pan - make sure the egg to pesto ratio is equal
  • Let the egg cook slowly to your liking - it is typically made with sunny side eggs, but it is your preference (don’t turn the heat up too high or the pesto will burn)
  • Garnish with chili flakes or sea salt, and enjoy!
  1. Pasta chips: Believe it or not, pasta can taste good unboiled. TikTok foodies get very creative with this crispy invention, where past noodles become chips. Can they beat the soft crunch of potato chips? That’s for you to judge. Here is the recipe:
  • Use any pasta of your choice. Bowtie and Penne noodles seem to be the most popular pastas on TikTok.
  • Cook the pasta al dente in boiling water
  • After cooking the pasta, drain it and toss with olive oil, parmesan cheese and spices of your choice
  • Air Fry the pasta noodles at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes, then flip the noodles and cook for an extra 2 to 3 minutes
  • Serve and enjoy with a dip of your choice!
  1. Baked feta pasta: One dish, and one main ingredient. This recipe is carried by one ingredient. Yes, you guessed it, feta cheese. Try out the viral recipe that caused stores all over the world to run out of feta cheese. Here is the recipe:
  • Add cherry tomatoes, olive oil, salt and pepper to a baking dish
  • Add the block of feta cheese to the center of the dish and cover it with more olive oil, salt and pepper
  • Bake it in the oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 30-minutes until the tomatoes burst and feta cheese is a soft golden brown around the edges
  • Once it comes out, add minced garlic and fresh basil leaves, then mix it around
  • Add the cooked pasta on top, stir it all together and enjoy!
  1. Gigi Hadid's Spicy Vodka pasta: She walks runways, poses and now has her own viral food recipe. Gigi Hadid’s pasta recipe was first posted on her Instagram story. Then, during the start of quarantine, the recipe flooded TikTok screens and became a stay at home meal for many. Here is the recipe:
  • In a saucepan, heat some olive oil, 1 small clove of garlic, and ¼ green onion and cook it until soft
  • Add ¼ cup of tomato paste and cook until it appears darker in color
  • Add in ½ cup of heavy whipping cream and 1 tbsp of vodka (cook until evaporated)
  • Add in as much red pepper flakes, salt and pepper as you want, then stir
  • Add in 1 tbsp of butter and stir it into all the other ingredients until it has melted
  • Add the cooked pasta noodles and some of the pasta water into the sauce
  • Add A LOT (or however much you want) of parmesan cheese into the disk and stir
  1. Nature’s cereal: While the name is very ambiguous, the ingredients are not. This simple and fruity recipe will give you a refreshing kick to the start of your day. Here is the recipe (hint: this one’s easy):
  • Add some berries and fruits of your choice to a bowl
  • Add as much water as you want, but enough to fill the bowl up
  • Add ice cubes
  • Then, enjoy! Essentially you are creating the illusion of cereal and milk but with fruit and water.

I hope these TikTok recipes have now relieved you of the “Food FOMO” you might feel from not being on TikTok. My personal favorite of the recipes is Gigi Hadid’s Spicy Vodka Pasta. It is a staple in my kitchen. So, with that, thank you to Ms. Hadid and the one and only, TikTok!
